Most organizations and security audits require/recommend that data is encrypted at rest. When Ploi creates EC2 servers the hard disks (EBS volumes) are NOT encrypted. As a result for our team (and guessing most other business / enterprise providers) need to manually encrypt the hard disk.

It would be great to have this as either an option on create, the base functionality on create, or an action to handle this on the server directly (post create)

The workflow:

  1. Stop Server
  2. Take snapshot of current EBS volume, and then clone EBS Volume as Encrypted
  3. Swap the Server HD to this new Encrypted Volume
  4. Start Server
  5. Destroy unencrypted EBS volume and snapshot

Allow creation of EC2 Instances with Encrypted Harddrive or Action to handle swap
