# Drop Composer v1 Support

Key Dates:
- February 1st, 2025: Composer 1.x metadata will become read-only. No new packages or new versions will be visible for Composer 1.x users after this date.
- August 1st, 2025: Composer 1.x metadata access will be entirely shut down. Attempting to update packages using Composer 1.x will no longer work.

I think [@Dennis](/user/Dennis) already has a plan for this. Maybe it can be outlined here and be moved to in progress.

Just to say that Private Packagist will continue to support Composer v1 until at least September 1st 2027:

So it may be worthwhile to continue supporting ist, though I am not sure If any customers are still using Composer v1.

Servers older than 2023 still have this option to switch (because there's still quite a few on 1) to version 2, so the card will still appear on those. Servers newer than that do not have the card anymore.
